Shooting Star Farm is a small, certified organic vegetable farm located 12 miles east of Mineral Point. I grow a wide variety of vegetables for farmers' markets, individuals, and restaurants.

Positions available

1. Part-Time Seasonal and Part-Time Summer Farm Crew Members

  • Seasonal work is from May through October

  • Summer work is June - end of August depending on school schedule.

2. Farmers’ Market Assistant

  • Saturdays approximately 7:00am-11:30am May through October.

Part-Time Seasonal and Summer Crew Members

Hours are generally M-T-Th-F averaging 18-25hrs/week.

*I will consider 1-3 days/week as long as you can commit to a regular schedule.

Shooting Star is a fairly intensively planted 1+ acre farm. A tractor is used for tilling the soil, mowing, and hauling heavy stuff, but most work, including seeding, weeding, planting, harvesting, washing, and packing is done by hand.

Typical work hours are 8:00am-2:00, with a short, paid lunch break. Considerations:

  • We work outdoors in hot, cold, and rainy weather, so you must dress accordingly and be prepared for changes in weather.

  • This type of work requires repetitive bending, crouching, stooping, and standing.

  • Ability to lift 40lbs on occasion may be necessary.

  • Punctuality is a must.

  • Questions are encouraged and appreciated. Communicating and cooperating is essential and necessary to get things right.

  • You should be able to work keep a steady pace while working – even when chatting.

  • Experience is preferred but not necessary. I will train you, but at a minimum, you should have a strong interest in working outdoors and/or plant and soil biology.

Farmers’ Market Assistant

  • This individual needs to be available at least 3 Saturdays per month from 7:00am-11:30am May through October.

  • Enthusiasm, a quick pace, and excellent customer service skills are required! Simple mental math will be necessary to quickly add purchases.

Compensation: Pay is hourly depending on experience.

Benefits for both positions include generous access to extra vegetables.

A reimbursed gear credit for rain gear or work shoes is given after one month of on-farm work.

Interested?  Send me an email at starfarm@mhtc.net. Include a description of why you would like to work on the farm and/or at the Market.
